Praise, from unknown quarters, for Albany's achievements this year

Don't brush off progress New York has made (op-ed/Albany Times Union)

In this op-ed, someone named Amy Traub hails Albany for all it got done this year, listing as evidence a bunch of policy decisions and non-decisions that are generally friendly to the left. Who's Amy Traub, you may ask? We did too, but the Albany Times Union doesn't identify her. But if you Google her name and "Albany," the first hit that comes up is a former union organizer and a policy type for the Drum Major Institute, a left-of-center think tank.

Is that the same person who wrote this piece? We suspect so. If so, that's helpful context that the Albany Times Union might have helpfully provided for its readers. If not – well, we still wonder about the author's background and perspective.

Another perspective on one of those issues:

To its credit, the Albany Times Union also publishes this letter from a business leader – our boss – contesting an earlier Albany Times Union editorial about proposals to require employers to offer paid family leave. And, to its credit, the paper notes not only the author's name but also his background. That's appropriate.
